Why I Build with AI Agents (And You Should Too)

Chatbots are last year. Agents — AI that takes actions autonomously — are the real revolution. Here's why I'm all in.

Chatbots vs Agents

A chatbot answers questions. An agent takes actions. The difference is the gap between a reference book and an employee. One waits passively for input. The other proactively executes tasks, monitors results, and adjusts.

PolyFire's trading bots are agents. They monitor markets, evaluate signals, execute trades, track positions, and report results — all autonomously. No human in the loop for routine operations. That's the paradigm shift.

Why Agents Change Everything

Human attention is the bottleneck of every business. You can hire more people, but each person can only focus on one thing at a time. Agents don't have this constraint. You can deploy 100 agents monitoring 100 different things simultaneously.

Signal Arena runs 236 trading agents in parallel. No human organization could monitor that many strategies across that many markets in real time. Agents make previously impossible operational scales achievable.

The MCP Protocol

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the standard that makes agents interoperable. Instead of building custom integrations for every tool, agents use MCP to discover and interact with any MCP-compatible service.

We built TradeSphere's MCP endpoint so that any AI agent can access our prediction market data, execute trades, and manage portfolios through a standard interface. The agent doesn't need to know our API — it discovers capabilities through the protocol.

Building Your First Agent

Start simple. Pick a task you do repeatedly that follows a clear decision tree. Build an agent that monitors a condition and takes an action when the condition is met. Monitor it closely at first. Gradually extend its autonomy as you build trust.

The hardest part isn't the technology — it's defining the boundaries. What should the agent decide on its own? When should it escalate to a human? Getting these boundaries right is the difference between a useful agent and a dangerous one.

The Future Is Agentic

Within 3 years, every serious business will have AI agents handling routine operations. Customer support, data monitoring, content scheduling, market analysis, compliance checking — all agentic.

The companies building agent infrastructure now will have a massive head start. The ones waiting will be scrambling to catch up. I know which position I'd rather be in — that's why BoomSauce Labs is agent-first.
